April Ross
April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players to capture medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days she will attempt to net her third medal along with the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross aims to earn her Olympic debut gold but she's also hoping for even more. Since she's 39 years old, it may be her last chance. The athlete is optimistic she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross was quoted by NBC Boston as saying that if you play your top, even if you perform well, you will win the gold. "I'm planning to test a little luck." Ross born in 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began playing athletics at the Newport Harbor High School. Ross went on to play in many sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. When she was a student in the prep school she was a participant in indoor volleyball along with basketball and track. Although she was a pro in indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her abilities were higher than normal. According to her bio, she played a middle blocker and an outside volleyball player throughout her time in high school. She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999, for her performance. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Even though Ross and Klineman are a couple since 2017, the former was already an established participant on the beaches prior to their team. In actual Ross has won a number of important tournaments throughout her career with two partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy was her partner for six years, from 2007 to 2013. Also, she coached Klineman as well as herself. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships of 2009. The duo eventually captured an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. They were defeated for the gold medal by the legendary duo comprised of Misty May-Treanor as well as Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she announced her retirement. In 2016, the pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. In high school and the years before she hit the sand professionally, Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as a collegiate. It was a successful performance for Ross during her time at the college level. In 2000 she was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman of the Year and an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she was devastated by a personal loss but still managed to repeat as an All-American. Over the course of her two final years with the Trojans they helped achieve consecutive championships. In 2003-2004, Ross was named as the most successful collegiate female volleyball player in America by The Honda Sports Award. Ross had been an international studies major at USC. Sadly, Ross mom Margie did not get to see Ross's daughter reach the top levels of beach volleyball stardom. When Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. But she still keeps her parent close to heart. Margie is an inspiration on and off of the beach.
